Sky Tg24 talks about Carbon, the e-bike with futuristic lines
At first glance it looks like a motorcycle but in reality it is the Moto Parilla electric bike. We went to the Reggio Emilia headquarters where it is produced and assembled. Finally we tested it on the road. Here is the story and our impressions.
Moto Parilla was an Italian motorcycle manufacturer. In 2017 the very young Filippo Beltrami bought the brand and assisted by a group of friends decided to bet on this logo and launch himself like a greyhound in the world of e-bikes, but with a dream: a new bike. It is produced in Reggio Emilia. We went to see how Carbon Factory, one of the 4 Moto Parilla models, was born. The others are: Ultra Carbon, Limited edition and Mimetica. And for city bike lovers, the portable Trilix.
We talked about the project with the CEO of Moto Parilla, Filippo Beltrami who decided to focus on this brand with many objectives. A love at first sight of the sinuous lines that have made the history of Moto Parilla and that have led Beltrami to the difficult acquisition of the brand and to focus on the production of new bicycles: “Carbon is a design product that comes from a meeting point between the world of bicycles and the world of motorcycles aiming more and more towards the future “.
The Parilla team is made up entirely of young people: research, test, and design taking inspiration from the world of bicycles, motorcycles and cars. The prototyping phase made with additive manufacturing techniques is very important. Thanks to the collaboration with suppliers, the best production and finishing techniques for each single component of the vehicle have been deepened, analyzed and defined. Exclusive materials are used using very few commercial components, in fact 98% of the pieces are made by Moto Parilla in Italy. Everything is assembled by hand and then ready to be shipped.
The brakes are very precise, the extra large tires are good for muddy terrain but also for sand and snow. The gearbox is inserted in the hub, so it is protected and not dirty, it activates like an accelerator. Carbon is made of carbon and aluminum, but despite this it is a bit heavy, we are around 38 kilos. Weight that made itself felt in our uphill test. The handmade leather saddle is very comfortable, it looks like that of a motorcycle. Particular the rounds that characterize the frame. They are very important to be able to move the Carbon smoothly.
In general, the driving sensations are excellent, the road holding is very stable and with a small pedal stroke the Carbon becomes a “scooter” that can reach 25 km / h, the limit allowed by Italian law. This is a pedal assist, so if you stop pedaling, the bike stops. The battery is placed horizontally and the compartment is locked. The range is 100 kilometers. The cost is around 9 thousand euros, it can be scary but the price to pay for a niche product like this that is super customizable.
